ATWATER, Calif. (AP) - A 19-year-old Central California mother is out on bail following her arrest on suspicion of child cruelty in the death of her 2-year-old son, who was found pinned under a fallen dresser.

Atwater police say Amanda Klaas left her son, Levi, unattended in a room at her home for 18 hours until she found him dead on Tuesday morning. The cause of death is under investigation, but police say the boy may have climbed on the dresser, causing it to fall onto him.

Klaas was booked into Merced County Jail, but later posted bail. Family members dispute that Klaas left her son unattended.

Sarah Klaas tells KFSN-TV (https://bit.ly/MRUrRm) her sister checked on Levi before going to bed and thought he was sleeping longer than usual.
