Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen killed an accused American spy Thursday in the city of Al Shajar and then hung him from a soccer goalpost for everyone to see.
Yemeni media believe that al Qaeda members killed the man because he was suspected of bugging the organization’s vehicles and meeting places, which guided CIA drones to their target, the Long War Journal reported.
The unidentified man, who was shot in the head, was surrounded by banners that read “American Spy in the Arabian Peninsula,” and “Whoever fights with the government or cooperates with it is not a Yemeni, not a Hadrami, but a traitor,” the Journal reported. “Guider of American planes to kill Muslims,” read another.
The execution happened just one day after a drone strike in the region, which killed al Qaeda commander Ali Juraym.
