DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say part of a train hauling corn derailed north of Ohio’s capital, sending nearly three dozen cars off the tracks and spilling their contents.
Emergency responders say no one was hurt when the middle of a southbound Norfolk Southern train derailed Tuesday afternoon near the sheriff’s office in Delaware County, roughly 25 miles north of downtown Columbus. The cause of the derailment wasn’t immediately clear.
The county’s emergency management office says the derailment damaged Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines.
A statement from Norfolk Southern Corp. said it wasn’t sure how soon the scene might be cleared.
The train had a total of 87 loaded cars and three locomotives. Norfolk Southern says it was headed from Clarksfield, Ohio, to Loudon, Tenn.
