GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Former first lady Rosalynn Carter will visit Grand Rapids to honor the late Betty Ford on the 96th anniversary of her birth.

Ford, the wife of President Gerald Ford, died in 2011. The Ford Presidential Foundation says Carter will participate in a discussion about friendship among America’s first ladies. It is one of two events planned for April 8 at a Grand Rapids hotel and the Ford Presidential Museum.

There will be a panel discussion at the museum about the impact of Betty Ford’s breast cancer diagnosis on women’s health in the 1970s.

Gerald Ford died in 2006. He represented Grand Rapids in Congress before becoming vice president and president.
