Rep. Paul Ryan is headed to Iowa next month to keynote the Iowa GOP’s annual Lincoln Dinner — marking the Wisconsin Republican’s second trip back to the Hawkeye State since being part of the GOP’s losing presidential ticket in 2012.
In making the announcement, AJ Spiker, the head of the Iowa Republican party, praised Mr. Ryan, who served as Mitt Romney’s running mate, saying he “brought a tremendous amount of new energy to our ticket.”
“As a congressman he’s created a conversation about the budget that most in Washington are unwilling to have, and he’s a proven leader armed with solutions to expand opportunity for all Americans,” Mr. Spiker said.
Iowa plays host to the caucuses that kick off the GOP presidential nomination race and is used to visits from those testing the presidential waters.
Mr. Ryan, who has kept the door open for a possible White House run, traveled to Altoona, Iowa, in November to headline Iowa Gov. Terry E. Brandstad’s annual birthday bash.
While there, he hinted at his political future by flirting with the idea of making more trips in the future.
The Lincoln Dinner is scheduled for April 11 in Cedar Rapids.
