MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - John Hollar will be serving as mayor of Vermont’s capital city once again after defeating ex-city employee Gwendolyn Hallsmith.

The vote was part of Montpelier’s Tuesday Town Meeting day. Hollar won by more than a 2-1 margin.

Hollar told The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus (https://bit.ly/1eWdOV5) that his positive campaign resonated with voters.

Hallsmith previously served as planning and community development director in the city government. Hallsmith lost her job last year after a publicized struggle with other city officials, including Hollar.

Hallsmith said she wishes Hollar and Montpelier well and that she “was helping make the democratic process work by making sure there was a choice for the people.”
