A judge ruled that New Jersey teen Rachel Canning does in fact seem “spoiled” and that she’s not entitled to the $650 of weekly child support she sought from her parents.
Morristown Superior Court Judge Peter Bogaard also ruled that her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, don’t have to continue paying her private high school tuition costs, the New York Daily News reported. The teen is currently a senior at Morris Catholic High School.
The case began when Rachel alleged her parents tossed her out of their house in Lincoln Park last year and cut off her school payments. Her parents, however, said their daughter refused to abide the house rules and chose to go live with someone else — so they decided to stop paying for her support.
Rachel sued, demanding her parents continue to pay her child support, high school costs and later, college tuition. The judge set a date to determine the outcome of the college tuition request — but in the meantime, slapped back her try to win the ongoing child support and high school costs.
He said, the New York Daily News reported: “Do we want to establish a precedent where parents live in basic fear of establishing rules of the house?”
The next hearing is April 22.
