NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) - Police in suburban Atlanta say a man accused of throwing his 2-year-old dog from a second-floor balcony has been charged with animal cruelty.

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://bit.ly/1q7r5OO ) on Wednesday that the distance between the balcony at the Norcross apartment complex and the ground was about 14 feet.

In an incident report, police said Fidel Coronado-Alvarez was upset that the terrier mix “made a mess” in his apartment. Police say a neighbor who saw the dog hit the ground picked it up and called animal control.

Coronado-Alvarez is being held on $5,700 bond in the Gwinnett County jail.
