DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - A campus minister at Northern Illinois University and another from a nearby church are hitting the streets to bring Ash Wednesday to those can’t or don’t make it to a service.
The Rev. Amy Fallon stood at a busy street corner in DeKalb Wednesday offering ashes to those who passed by.
According to The Daily Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1dsDPdn ), Fallon stood in a light snow as she told people walking by about Ash Wednesday. She placed ash marks on the foreheads of those who asked.
In many Christian denominations ashes are placed on the forehead on Ash Wednesday as a sign of reflection and repentance. The day is the start of Lent, the 40 days before Easter.
Fallon worked with the Rev. Stacy Walker-Frontjes from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in DeKalb.
