Courtroom named after late judge Boochever

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A courtroom in downtown Juneau has been named for the late judge Robert Boochever.

Friends, family and former colleagues filled a courtroom on the ninth floor of the federal building Monday for a dedication ceremony. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess called the honor fitting for a man who “dedicated himself to pursuing justice.”

Boochever served on the Alaska Supreme Court for eight years, four as chief justice. He was the first Alaskan to serve on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and served until he was 90.

Boochever died in 2011, at age 94.

The Juneau Empire reports (https://bit.ly/MND58l ) Congress passed legislation authorizing the naming in 2012, following advocacy efforts by attorney Bart Rozell. A framed copy of the bill adorns the courtroom with a portrait of Boochever.
