NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY-fee) is traveling to Connecticut to join President Barack Obama as he pushes for an increase in the federal minimum wage.
Obama is scheduled to appear Wednesday at Central Connecticut State University on his effort to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour.
Democratic governors including Chafee, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin will also be there.
Chafee last year signed legislation that raised the minimum wage by 25 cents, to $8 per hour. It went into effect Jan. 1.
Obama has made raising the minimum wage a priority this year, but it’s not clear Congress will go along.
The president will also stop in Boston to headline two fundraisers for the Democratic National Committee.
