OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) - A business retention and expansion program is being launched to help recreation and tourism businesses in a central New York county on Lake Ontario.

The New York Sea Grant and SUNY Oswego say nearly 600 businesses in Oswego County are taking part in a survey that will evaluate the local business climate and assist existing companies with expansion.

Officials say their goal is to increase communication between businesses and local and county governments. They say the pilot program in Oswego County could be applied to other counties along Lake Ontario.

Business owners will have the opportunity to rank the value of a variety of community services and to identify business sector trends, such as changing vacation patterns and increasing minimum wage.

Survey responses will be collected through May 12.
