RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The state Board of Education has elected Christian Braunlich of Fairfax County as president.

The state Department of Education made the announcement Monday. Winsome Sears of Frederick County was elected vice president.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1pX0dB3 ) that Braunlich was appointed to the board in 2011 and has served as chairman of the K-12 policy panel’s Charter School Committee. He is vice president of the Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy and served as a member of the Fairfax County School Board from January 1996 to December 2003.

Sears was appointed to the board in 2011 and has served as chairman of its College Partnership Laboratory Schools Committee. Sears served in the House of Delegates in 2002 and 2003, representing portions of Hampton Roads.
