ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - St. Paul teachers have overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year contract agreement.
St. Paul Federation of Teachers President Mary Cathryn Ricker says more than 95 percent of those voting Tuesday voted “yes.”
The St. Paul School Board is scheduled to vote on the proposal March 18.
The proposal calls for an 8.6 percent increase in wages and benefits over two years and new limits on class sizes.
The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1hIcOnI ) reports the agreement is expected to cost $33 million.
Negotiators for the district and the union reached the tentative deal on Feb. 21 after a nearly-24-hour bargaining session. The deal was reached just days before teachers were set to take a strike-authorization vote.
St. Paul is Minnesota’s second-largest district with nearly 38,000 students and about 3,200 teachers.
