SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man will plead guilty to threatening to kill President Barack Obama last year.
An attorney for Nicholas Savino told The Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1iaKBZF) that the plea agreement reached Friday acknowledges there’s no evidence Savino intended to carry out the threat.
Defense attorney Paul Ackourey said he hopes Savino, who has been jailed since his arrest, will be sentenced to time served and released once he enters his plea.
Authorities said the Clarks Summit man emailed the White House on Aug. 16 calling Obama the Antichrist and threatening to shoot him. He was arrested a week later, just before Obama visited nearby Scranton.
Authorities said a search of Savino’s home turned up a loaded semi-automatic rifle, 11,000 rounds of ammunition, a long-range scope and training manuals on long-range shooting.
