Day two of the murder trial of Olympian Oscar Pistorius was marked by a stern warning from the judge, who told a local television channel in no uncertain terms to quit broadcasting photographs of a key witness.
The witness had already been granted protection by the court, The Washington Post reported. But a local South African television channel kept showing the photograph anyway.
Judge Thokozile Masipa called the television station’s actions “very disturbing,” The Washington Post reported.
“An investigation is to follow to find out exactly what is happening,” he said, in the newspaper. “This may just be the tip of the iceberg.”
The witness — a neighbor to Mr. Pistorius — is testifying that she heard a woman screaming from the Olympian’s home the same night he shot to death his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Mr. Pistorius faces murder charges for the Feb. 14, 2013, shooting death of Ms. Steenkamp, which he claims was a case of mistaken identity. He said he thought she was a home intruder.
