BOSTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has included money in his federal budget proposal for the extension of the MBTA’s Green Line.
U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano called the inclusion of the project in the budget “an important step in securing the federal funding necessary” for the transit project. He said it brings the project one day closer to breaking ground.
The extension of the Green Line to Medford was mandated under an environmental agreement tied to the Big Dig.
Obama’s previous budgets failed to win support in Congress. Instead, Congress is likely to adhere to last year’s mini budget deal as it looks ahead to midterm elections this fall.
Capuano described himself as a strong supporter of the project and said he’ll continue to work with state and federal officials to advance it.
