WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New Castle County employees who earn minimum wage are getting a raise.

County Executive Tom Gordon has signed an executive order boosting the minimum hourly wage for county workers from $7.25 to $10.10. The change will take effect July 1.

Officials say the order will raise the minimum hourly wage to $10.10 for all but four county positions, which will require action by the county council to amend. Until then, those positions will be raised to $9 per hour, the top of the current pay scale.

In January, Gov. Jack Markell signed a bill raising Delaware’s minimum wage by a dollar over the next two years. .

The new state law raises the hourly wage from $7.25 to $7.75 on June 1 and to $8.25 on June 1, 2015.
