Grand Rapids, Mich., council members have taken a step toward overturning a 38-year-old rule that bans individuals from purposefully annoying another.
The Grand Rapids City Commission has mulled a measure to repeal the ban, after city attorney Catherine Mish expressed concerns that the language in the rule was “unconstitutional in terms of being vague,” and therefore “simply unenforceable,” the Grand Rapids Press reported.
City officials will decide the outcome of Ms. Mish’s recommendation on March 11, CBS reported.
She has also made suggestions to overturn other archaic rules — like one that bans people from riding horses on sidewalks and another that allows libraries to pursue jail time for those who fail to return their books.
