HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - State and local search and rescue agencies are gathering in Hampton for five days of training.

The Coast Guard and the Virginia Port Authority are hosting the forum starting Tuesday morning. The forum will include classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, as well as an opportunity to film and photograph a helicopter hoist exercise.

Vendors also will provide resources and technical assistance.

Capt. John Little is commander of Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads. He says the forum is a good opportunity for first responders to hone their skills before the busy summer recreational boating season.
