A retired Army colonel in Arkansas has changed his name to “Colonel” after learning he would not be able to use his military title on the ballot for the 2nd Congressional District GOP primary in May.
Conrad Reynolds, now Colonel Conrad Reynolds, finally decided to have his name legally changed last month after a failed bid for the state Senate in 2010.
Arkansas state law does not allow professional or honorary titles to be used as nicknames, the Associated Press reported.
A spokesman for the Arkansas secretary of state’s office said Monday that Conrad Reynolds can now be referred to as “Colonel,” now that his name is legally changed.
Mr. Reynolds retired from the Army in 2009 after serving “everywhere,” including Iraq and Afghanistan, as a military intelligence officer, CNN reported.
He is one of three Republicans running for the 2nd Congressional District.
