ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida hospital has reached a tentative settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice on a portion of a Medicare fraud lawsuit.
The agreement was reached Monday in federal district court in Orlando. The details of the settlement were not released.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1dX1GyE ) reports that lawyers for the government and Halifax Health were given until Monday to reach a final agreement. If they can’t agree, jury selection will begin March 11.
Halifax Health attorney Dave Davidson says the agreement allows the hospital to move forward and “focus on quality health care.”
The hospital’s director of physician services filed a whistle-blower lawsuit in 2009, accusing the facility of filing false Medicare claims and paying doctors improperly. The justice department intervened on some of the allegations two years later.
