PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Education says the state’s digital literacy training curriculum will be implemented statewide in adult education programs.
Under the new initiative, teachers in adult education programs will be trained in the Broadband Rhode Island internet basics curriculum.
Broadband Rhode Island aims to expand broadband use and digital literacy across the state.
Officials say that some adult learners’ unfamiliarity with computers and the Internet is an obstacle in the workforce and that the initiative will help close the “digital skills gap” and improve workforce training.
About 30 percent of Rhode Island adults don’t use the Internet.
Broadband Rhode Island is an initiative of the Office of Digital Excellence and the state Department of Administration.
