GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled against Gulf Shores in an ongoing dispute over land the city annexed in the Fort Morgan area.

The ruling comes more than a decade after Gulf Shores annexed 19 miles of land along Alabama Highway 180, which sparked a lawsuit by the Fort Morgan Civic Association.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1kUCg9L) Friday’s ruling by the state’s highest court means all of the property will be reverted back to Baldwin County.

Association President Paul Barefield said the group was happy to finally put the issue to rest. He said the group now hopes to move toward having some type of protection for the area, possibly in the form of a historic district or preservation zone.
