RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The latest winter storm is pushing out of North Carolina, but its after-effects may be causing problems for motorists.

The National Weather Service is advising motorists to watch for black ice. Many school systems in the path of the storm dismissed classes early Monday. Some delayed the start of classes Tuesday, while others canceled school.

Weather service meteorologist Katie Bedeaux said the snow, sleet and freezing rain that may have melted on streets and highways re-froze to create black ice.

Low temperatures Tuesday ranged from 8 in Reidsville to 37 at Hatteras.

Bedeaux said while the Tuesday commute could be dicey, road conditions will improve as the sun rises.

Major utilities in North Carolina reported no serious disruptions. Duke Energy said only about 140 customers were without service early Tuesday.
