MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State is moving the Turkey Day Classic from Thanksgiving Day.
The Hornets schedule released Tuesday includes its game with Stillman on Saturday, November 22. It’s the second straight year that Stillman has been Alabama State’s opponent in the game after replacing longtime rival Tuskegee in the Classic, which is going into its 91st year.
The game will be played the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
University President Gwendolyn E. Boyd said in a letter to Alabama State supporters Tuesday that “the move allows our students to be more involved in their Homecoming tradition.”
It also means the Hornets will be eligible to compete in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Boyd wrote that the surrounding festivities, including a parade, will continue.
