AMES, Iowa (AP) - Voters in Ames have rejected a proposal to borrow up to $19 million to pay the city’s share of a convention center at Iowa State University.

Results showed the measure failed Tuesday, 62 percent to 37 percent.

The entire project was estimated to cost $38 million. The university would have picked up the remaining $19 million.

The center would have been jointly owned by the city and university.
