CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia will honor retired director of operations and maintenance Jay Klingel as part of its Founder’s Day activities.

The school says it will plant a tree in Klingel’s honor on the west side of the Lawn.

Klingel retired Friday. He joined U.Va.’s Facilities Management in 1979 and served as director of operations and maintenance for the past 10 years.

Founder’s Day is celebrated on Thomas Jefferson’s birthday on April 13. The university says the tree-planting ceremony will be held April 11 because Jefferson’s birthday falls on a Sunday this year.
