Meth tied to 4.5 percent of Casper arrests in ‘13

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Natrona County Sheriff Gus Holbrook thinks Casper’s economic boom led to an increase in methamphetamine arrests last year.

Meth was listed as a factor in about 4.5 percent of arrests in 2013, up from 3.5 percent in 2012. The Casper Star-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1mpgBai ) reports that the figure hovered between 2.2 and 2.5 percent between 2010 and 2012.

The executive director the Wyoming Meth Project, Jean Davies, thinks most meth labs have disappeared from Casper and that the drug is now supplied by Mexican cartels.

Meth use is believed to have played a role in some violent crimes in Casper recently.

Last week, a suspected meth user admitted to using brass knuckles to beat a man he believed was housing an informer on a past drug operation.
