CHICAGO (AP) - Matt Lindstrom will open the season as the Chicago White Sox closer.
Manager Robin Ventura said before Monday’s opener against Minnesota that the veteran right-hander will serve in that role, at least for now.
Lindstrom was 2-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 76 appearances last season, his first with the White Sox. He saved 15 games for Florida in 2009 and 23 for Houston in 2010.
The role opened when Addison Reed got traded to Arizona in the offseason. Nate Jones and Daniel Webb also were considered for the job.
