CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn plans to be among the fans cheering for the Chicago White Sox at the team’s season opener.

The Chicago Democrat is a longtime White Sox fan and season ticket holder.

He says he’ll spend Monday afternoon taking in the game between the Sox the Minnesota Twins.

In a pre-game interview with WGWG sports radio The Game, Quinn says opening day is especially welcome following this year’s rough winter.

He says one of the things that makes Illinois great is that residents love their sports - especially the White Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Quinn says last year was “brutal” for the Sox, but he has hope that both of Chicago’s baseball teams will have better seasons this year.
