NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man charged with shooting five people, killing one, at an off-campus party near Seton Hall University has been convicted of murder and attempted murder charges.
Nicholas Welch, of East Orange, was found guilty Monday on charges stemming from the September 2010 shooting that killed Jessica Moore, a 19-year-old sophomore honors student from Disputanta, Va. Four other students were wounded.
The 29-year-old Welch faces life in prison when he’s sentenced May 30. He was acquitted of hindering his apprehension.
Prosecutors have said Welch brawled with the party hosts after they wouldn’t let him in. They said he then went to a nearby friend’s home and got the gun he used in the shooting.
Seton Hall is a well-regarded Roman Catholic university with a gated campus in South Orange.
