LEAD, S.D. (AP) - The 350 miles of the Black Hills snowmobile trails officially close on Monday.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports (https://bit.ly/1pk4j4V ) that the closure marks the end of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department’s trail grooming duties. Snowmobilers are still able to ride the snow-packed trails but must stay on Forest Service land as contracts between the state and private landowners also terminate on Monday.

Black Hills Trails District supervisor Shannon Percy says snowmobile traffic was up significantly this year compared to last season. The Game, Fish and Parks Department says clicks on trail counters are up about 39 percent.

Trail conditions were not as ideal in the eastern part of the state.
