NEW YORK (AP) - Crew chiefs Jeff Kellogg and Larry Vanover head the eight umpires working in Major League Baseball’s replay room for the first eight days of video review.
The league plans to have a pair of four-man crews man the replay room each week at Major League Baseball Advanced Media’s Manhattan office. Brian O’Nora, Dan Bellino and D.J. Reyburn are part of Kellogg’s crew that started its shift Monday night, and Angel Hernandez, Paul Nauert and Adrian Johnson are part of Vanover’s crew.
MLB plans to announce which eight umpires are in the room each week but will not identify which umpire reviews a specific replay.
Veteran umpires Tim McClelland, Gary Darling and Sam Holbrook are likely to start the season on the disabled list, the league said Sunday, and Vanover is acting crew chief for McClelland and Jerry Meals is acting crew chief for Darling.
Eight Triple-A umpires have called up to work all or part of the opening week of the big league season: Sean Barber, Clint Fagan, Hal Gibson, Pat Hoberg, Will Little, Mark Ripperger, John Tumpane and Quinn Wolcott.
