AMC’s new spy series “Turn” has already made big fans of former President George H. W. Bush and the former first lady.
The couple hosted “Turn” producers, cast members and several AMC executives for a private screening of the show on Saturday, more than a week ahead of its official premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Set in 1778, “Turn” tells the true story of America’s first spy ring. It follows New York farmer, Abe Woodhull, played by Jamie Bell, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who work to aid George Washington in America’s fight for independence.
“AMC put together a brilliant show, a fantastic cast, there’s one problem however, and that’s waiting till the next episode,” said President Bush, who served for a year as CIA director in 1976.
“It was utterly fascinating to share the story of America’s first spy ring with President Bush, who knows first-hand from his days at the CIA, the danger these men and women faced as spies, and the sacrifices they made which ultimately ensured America’s freedom,” AMC president Charlie Collier told The Reporter.
“Turn” premieres April 6 at 9 .p.m. ET.
