MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) - Visitors to George Washington’s former home will soon be able to take home a bottle of peach brandy like one the president might have poured for guests.
The staff at Mount Vernon, the former president’s home, has recreated a peach brandy using the same methods that would have been used at the estate in the 18th century. The first batch of the brandy goes on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. and costs $150 for a bottle. Only 400 bottles were made.
The nation’s first president oversaw the production of about 60 gallons of peach brandy every year. He was better known for producing rye whiskey and made some 11,000 gallons of it annually, bottling and selling it.
Washington operated the largest distillery in America at the time.
