ROYERSFORD, Pa. (AP) - Former baseball star Pete Rose spoke at a Philadelphia-area church about making mistakes and second chances.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (https://bit.ly/1pEMPOV ) reports that Rose spoke Sunday at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Royersford. Rose was banned from baseball in 1989 for betting on games while he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
The church invited Rose to speak, and Pastor Brian Jones says that the Bible speaks about the need to give people another chance. The pastor declined to say how much Rose charged for the appearances.
Rose says he was wrong but should be allowed back in baseball because drug users and alcoholics have been given second and third chances in the sport.
But Rose says he can’t complain because he’s the one “that screwed up.”
