RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - More than 90 members of the Virginia National Guard and the Virginia Defense Force are staged and ready to help respond to the winter storm.

The National Guard says soldiers are staged at readiness centers along the northern Interstate 81 corridor, and in Leesburg and Fredericksburg.

Additional soldiers, airmen and Virginia Defense Force members are on duty at the Joint Operations Center in Sandston, Logistics Operation Center at Fort Pickett and Virginia Emergency Operations Center in Richmond.

Potential missions include assisting stranded motorists, tree and debris removal and transportation of health care professionals and emergency services personnel.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency Monday as the winter storm began. The Virginia Guard is authorized to bring up to 100 personnel on state active duty.
