The Republican National Committee began the process Monday of listening to the sales pitches from the cities vying to host the 2016 GOP national convention, where the party’s standard-bearer will be nominated.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and site selection committee chair Enid Mickelson told reporters that they planned to hear presentations Monday from a total of eight cities jockeying to host the event.
Five of those groups — Columbus and Cleveland, as well as Kansas City, Denver and Phoenix — made their pitches on Monday, while presentations from Dallas, Cincinnati and Las Vegas were delayed due to weather.
Mr. Priebus said that RNC is looking for a city that can shoulder the financial burden of hosting the convention and has the hotel and transportation capacity to ensure the experience is a good one for the convention delegates.
“We have to make sure that we put on a convention that gives our nominee a bump,” Mr. Priebus said.
The convention will be held in late June or July.
