ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Dutch club Feyenoord says Fred Rutten will replace Ronald Koeman as coach next season.

Koeman announced earlier this year he would not extend his contract with the Rotterdam team, which 12 points behind leader Ajax in fourth place.

Feyenoord says on its website that Rutten will sign a one-year contract. Financial terms were not released Monday.

Rutten has previously led PSV Eindhoven, Vitesse Arnhem and Bundesliga club Schalke.

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel says the club’s leadership was unanimous, adding Rutten is “the right man, after a few great years, to take over from Ronald Koeman.”

Koeman has been credited with forging a strong team out of a young squad.
