CHICAGO (AP) - Former Illinois Congressman Mel Reynolds says he’s in hiding after being deported from Zimbabwe for allegedly staying in the country with an expired visa.
Reynolds was arrested last month for allegedly possessing pornography. But now he says the charges were trumped up to discredit him because he was about to expose Americans who are illegally doing business with dictator Robert Mugabe.
Reynolds told Chicago’s WLS-TV (https://bit.ly/1diMbnP) he will reveal information in the next day or so about people doing business with the Mugabe regime at a press conference in South Africa.
He also told WLS there were no images on his phone that would be considered pornographic in any place other than Zimbabwe.
Reynolds lost his congressional seat in 1995 after being convicted of sexual assault and soliciting child porn.
