Sen. Angus King, Maine independent, said Monday that the U.S. should be wary of jumping into the Ukraine crisis too quickly given the fluid nature of the conflict.
“Have been following this situation closely and expect briefings this week in Armed Services and Intelligence,” he wrote on his Facebook page in a question and answer session with constituents. “Very tough (and dangerous) situation. No conclusion at this point as the situation is changing from hour to hour, but believe we should be very careful about getting in too far, too fast.”
Mr. King also fielded questions about rural broadband, being able to buy insurance across state lines, industrial hemp farming and what it’s like to be one of two independent members of Congress, which he says helps him bridge the gap between Democrats and Republicans while still allowing him good committee assignments by caucusing with the Democrats.
“No plans to join one of the parties,” he wrote.”Occasionally (and hopefully more often going forward), I can serve as a bridge between the parties to help find solutions instead of gridlock. That’s the idea!”
