JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The capital budget is slated to re-emerge in the Senate Finance Committee this coming week.
Committee co-chair Kevin Meyer has tried to lower expectations for the budget, given the state is expected to be drawing on savings to help balance spending for next year.
Meyer told reporters this past week that the committee was looking for areas to cut from Gov. Sean Parnell’s budget. He said his goal had been to stay below what Parnell proposed but he didn’t think that would happen, because the money Parnell had proposed for engineering schools at the University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Fairbanks was not enough. He said the money proposed for the State Library, Archives and Museum wasn’t sufficient, either.
Meyer favors having the state finish projects it’s started.
