SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - A Medal of Honor recipient from Rochester will join other Vietnam veterans at the New York State Military Museum for a panel discussion about their wartime experiences.

Saturday afternoon’s free event at the Saratoga Springs museum will feature five combat veterans, including Gary Beikirch. As an Army sergeant in a Special Forces unit, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing numerous comrades during a North Vietnamese attack in 1970.

Also on the panel are two retired Army officers, Brig. Gen. Barry Hartman of Clifton Park and Lt. Col. Nick Laiacona of Bolton Landing. The other two panel members are Army medic Lew Benton and Marine Corps Capt. Dave Wallingford, both of Saratoga Springs.

Saturday is national Vietnam Veterans Day, commemorating the date of final withdrawal of U.S. forces from Vietnam in 1975.
