CARY, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Greg Brannon is traveling the state with a sitting senator who endorsed him and who is also a favorite of the tea party movement.

Utah Sen. Mike Lee was scheduled to attend two fundraisers for Brannon’s campaign Friday - the first a breakfast event in Cary, followed by a late afternoon reception at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. In between, the two will anchor a Greensboro rally.

Lee’s endorsement earlier this month added to the list of tea party notables seeking to help the Cary obstetrician advance in the crowded Republican primary in May. Eight GOP candidates are competing to take on Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan in November.

Lee and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul already have put their names to fundraising letters on Brannon’s behalf.
