COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott now has a primary opponent this year.

Randall Young of Greenville filed papers Thursday to enter the race.

Young could not immediately be reached for comment. His filing papers had only a Greenville post office box and listed only a cellphone that was not a working number.

Another Democrat has entered the race. Former York County councilman Sidney Moore filed Thursday. He will face Richland County Councilwoman Joyce Dickerson in the June Democratic primary.

Scott was appointed to the Senate seat in late 2012 to fill the unexpired term of U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint who resigned to head a conservative think tank. Scott had been the U.S. Representative in South Carolina’s 1st District.
