KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Pat Summitt Foundation has formed a Medical Advisory Council of prominent Alzheimer’s disease experts from around the country.
According to the foundation, the council is co- chaired by Dr. John Dougherty and Dr. Ronald C. Petersen. Dougherty is medical director of the Cole Neuroscience Center at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Petersen is director of the Mayo Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in Rochester, Minn.
The council will serve as the foundation’s liaison with the medical and research communities. It will also inform staff and board members of developments in Alzheimer’s diagnosis, treatment, funding and policy.
The grant-making Pat Summitt Foundation was established in 2011 by the head coach emeritus of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team shortly after her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s.
