Disgraced California state Sen. Leland Yee is the new poster boy in a social media ad campaign released Thursday by the National Rifle Association.
The San Francisco Democrat, who is under pressure to resign after his arrest this week on corruption and conspiracy charges, is featured in a newly posted ad touting his A+ rating in 2006 by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
The irony is that Mr. Yee was arrested Wednesday by the FBI in a sting operation along with an organized-crime figure known as Shrimp Boy on charges related to dealing firearms without a license and illegally exporting firearms.
“Anti-gun CA State Sen Leland Yee was arrested for alleged conspiracy to illegally import firearms,” said the Twitter post on @NRA, which had more than 1,000 retweets after 16 hours.
Mr. Yee has dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination for California Secretary of State, but has so far refused to resign his seat.
State lawmakers are expected to act Friday to suspend Mr. Yee with pay if he does not step down voluntarily.
