LAS VEGAS (AP) - Matt Hagan took the Funny Car qualifying lead Friday in the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals.

Paired against Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps for both runs, Hagan topped the field with a 4.063-second run at 320.58 mph in his Dodge Charger.

“I always try to put the extra effort in during qualifying, but especially when we’re running a teammate,” Hagan said. “It is bragging rights when you go out and lay one on your teammate. That always puts a smile on my face.”

Steve Torrence had the Top Fuel lead, and Jeg Coughlin topped the Pro Stock field.

Torrence had a 3.779 at 310.91, and Coughlin finished in 6.625 at 208.78 in a Dodge Dart.

Coughlin, the defending Pro Stock series champion and a five-time winner in Las Vegas, will race Saturday in the eight-man K&N Horsepower Challenge bonus event.
