IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Officials have declined to let HBO film some scenes of its “Girls” show on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says (https://icp-c.com/1jdDBJv ) a plot twist on the hit comedy show has the main character accepted to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the school. HBO wanted to film on location, but university officials said no, saying the filming would be disruptive.

One of the show’s writers, Sarah Heyward, has attended the workshop.

The university decision disappointed Josh Schamberger, who is director of the area’s convention and visitors bureau. Schamberger says he thinks “it would be tremendous for Iowa City to be featured so prominently on a very, very popular show on HBO.”
